How to pick a good videographer

As a general rule we advise couples to speak directly with all their vendors, to understand why they do what they do, their style and approach. Make sure you find out who will actually be there on the day. A videographer that is perfect for one couple may not be a good fit for another.

Great audio – Wait, don’t you mean great footage? No, we mean audio. With the fast paced, sometimes unpredictable nature of weddings, we may not nail our camera settings 100% of the time – but with the magic of editing we can usually work to fix it up. Poor audio on the other hand is much harder to recover and is not so forgiving. Not only is the quality of audio important, but what and how it is integrated into a film to tell a story and create a mood matters too. Check out this post on how we record audio for more info.

Story – a good video should be more than just a montage of pretty shots. There should be highs and lows, change of pace, intention behind sequencing shots and spoken word which adds to the overall story.

Vibe of the video – most weddings will have certain elements in common. The quality of the work should be consistent but each film should have a uniqueness about it that represents each couple, their values and how it felt on the day.
